Portal To The Ancestors I & II
While the “Requiem Ark” paintings dealt with parental loss and our own individual grieving processes, this work was our attempt to go a step further and make contact with our departed ancestors; if only to let them know they were still permanently in our thoughts and dreams.
For this new series, we took cherished family photos, photocopied them and taped them to the walls of the studio to form collages. Then, working on canvases placed directly above them, we began our dialogue and improvisations, the linen absorbing the shadows of our ancestors beneath as we painted just a few centimetres above.
Acrylic on canvas 300 cm x 122 cm.
Private collection.
